my october private encaustic workshop participants were johnnene maddison and gail rhynard, two very fun fiber artists who came all the way from canada to learn encaustic and experience the amazing city of philadelphia! i had a great time teaching these two and they both took to the medium very well, but in very different ways. gail's is more a painterly style, while johnnene's more a collage artist and both created some fine work-which speaks to the unrivaled versatility of this amazing medium. see more of gail's work here and johnnene's here.

my september private encaustic workshop was cynthia groya, an accomplished artist who took to encaustic like she's been working with it all her life! she brought some incredible manipulated images that she uses for inspiration and went on her way to make some really cool paintings. i'm especially impressed by her use of color in all of her work. you must see her work in person to appreciate it and for those of you in the philly area, you're in luck! she's having a show called 'pulling paint' at muse gallery until november 28. if you can't get to the show, see her work here.
